Microsoft Office Live Small Business
Redirect your domain name from Yahoo!

    The basic steps

Follow these instructions to redirect your Web site address to your new Microsoft Office Live Web site.

Use a domain name you already own (redelegation)

If you already own a domain name, you can use it with Microsoft Office Live. You will need to redirect your domain name to Microsoft Office Live with a brief process called redelegation.

    What is redelegation?
Redelegation is the process of telling your current domain name registrar to point your domain name to your new Microsoft Office Live Web site. You do this by changing the name server information at your domain name registrar.

Is redelegation the same as transferring my domain?
No. Transferring your domain name consists of transferring the management of the domain name to a new registrar. With redelegation, you will still pay your current registrar to manage and renew your domain name.

    What is a name server?
A name server is a computer that uses a Web site name to route visitors to the actual Web site location. For example, when you type www.adventure-works.com into a browser, a name server uses that name to connect you to the Adventure-works.com Web site. You can edit your name server settings at your registrar’s site to direct your domain name to Microsoft Office Live.

How can I find out who my domain name's registrar is?
To search for domain names ending in .com, .net, and .org, visit the InterNIC Web site.

Note   Yahoo! is not a registrar, so you will first need to cancel your subscription with Yahoo! and then redelegate your domain through Melbourne IT (the registrar for Yahoo!).

Cancel your Yahoo! Small Business plan

    1. Navigate to Yahoo! Small Business and log in with your Yahoo! user ID.

    2. In the dashboard, click Cancel Plan.

    3. Complete the cancellation pages that follow.

    4. When you have finished, the text “Your authorization code: <xxxxxx>” appears. The alphanumeric code “xxxxxx” is your Melbourne IT registry key; think of this as a password to your domain name.

    5. Call Yahoo! technical support and notify them that you would like them to release the management rights to your domain name.

Transfer your domain name to Microsoft Office Live
After you have cancelled your Yahoo! Small Business plan, go to the Microsoft Office Live sign-up page and click the link to redirect your domain name. Enter your domain name and complete signup.

    • Sign up for Microsoft Office Live Small Business

    • Click the link in “Already have a domain? Redirect it to Microsoft Office Live“ and enter your domain name. You must click the link before you enter the domain name, and then click Confirm. You will be taken to the temporary Home page after sign up, where you can begin the redelegation process.

Manage your domain at Melbourne IT

    2. Go to the Melbourne IT Web site and log in at the top right of the page.

    3. Log in to My Account, and then click Log in to Domain Maintenance and enter your domain name and your Melbourne IT registry key (also known as your authorization code). The My Account console appears.

    4. Click View/Manage Domain Names under the Domain Names section of the Console. The View Domain Names page will display the list of domain names under My Account.

    5. Click the domain name that you want to redirect. The Domain Management page will appear.

    6. Under Domain Names , click View/Manage Domain Names. The View Domain Names page lists the domain names under your account.

    7. Click the domain name that you want to redirect. The Domain Management page will appear.

    8. In the Name Server Details section of the page, click Change Delegation Details.

    9. On the Delegation page, enter the details for the new name servers for your domain name and click Submit Changes.

    10. A confirmation message appears showing the details of the updated delegation.

    11. Sign in to your Microsoft Office Live account and check the status of your account. After redelegation is complete, your domain name will point to your Microsoft Office Live Web site. Please allow 24-72 hours to complete the process.
Note   This is not a domain transfer. Your domain name registration will remain with Melbourne IT, and you'll still be responsible for domain name fees and renewal with Melbourne IT.
