Redirect your domain name from GoDaddy.com
The basic steps
Follow these instructions to redirect your Go Daddy Web site address to your new Microsoft Office Live Web site. For more information, see
If you already own a domain name, you can use it with Microsoft Office Live. You will need to redirect your domain name to Microsoft Office Live with a brief process called redelegation.
What is redelegation?
Redelegation is the process of telling your current domain name registrar to point your domain name to your new Microsoft Office Live Web site. You do this by changing the name server information at your domain name registrar.
Is redelegation the same as transferring my domain?
No. Transferring your domain name consists of transferring the management of the domain name to a new registrar. With redelegation, you will still pay your current registrar to manage and renew your domain name.
What is a name server?
A name server is a computer that uses a Web site name to route visitors to the actual Web site location. For example, when you type www.adventure-works.com into a browser, a name server uses that name to connect you to the Adventure-works.com Web site. You can edit your name server settings at your registrar’s site to direct your domain name to Microsoft Office Live.
How can I find out who my domain name's registrar is?To search for domain names ending in .com, .net, and .org, visit the
InterNIC Web site.
To redirect your Web site to Microsoft Office Live
- Sign up for Microsoft Office Live Small Business
- Click the link in “Already have a domain? Redirect it to Microsoft Office Live“ and enter your domain name. You must click the link before you enter the domain name, and then click Confirm. You will be taken to the temporary Home page after sign up, where you can begin the redelegation process with Go Daddy.
- You will need to provide GoDaddy.com with four pieces of information: the primary name server, primary IP address, secondary name server, and secondary IP address – all of which are provided on this page.
- Navigate to the Go Daddy Web site and log in.
- Under the Domain Names list, click Manage Domains.
- Click the domain name that you want to redirect to Microsoft Office Live.
- Click Total DNS Control and MX Records under Total DNS Control.
- Find the A (Host) list. In the top item, click the pen icon.
- Type the provided primary Microsoft Office Live name server in the Host name text box. Type the provided primary Microsoft Office Live IP address in the Points to IP address text box.
- Click OK.
- Repeat these steps for the secondary Microsoft Office Live name server and secondary IP address. If there is no secondary entry, click Add New A Record to create a second one.
- Sign in to your Microsoft Office Live account and check the status of your account. After redelegation is complete, your domain name will point to your Microsoft Office Live Web site. Please allow 24-72 hours to complete the process.
Note This is not a domain transfer. Your domain name registration will remain with your current registrar, and you'll still be responsible for domain name fees and renewal with that organization.
